Dominik Mysterio plays one of the slimiest boyfriends in wrestling. On WWE television, he’s Liv Morgan‘s “Dirty Dom,” full of PDA and questionable decisions as part of The Judgment Day. At home, he’s just Dominik, married to his actual wife, Marie, since 2011. On a recent episode of The Ariel Helwani Show (h/t Wrestling Inc. for the transcription), Mysterio explained exactly how those two realities stay in their own lanes.
“Hey Honey, Don’t Tune In”
Mysterio credits communication above everything else. “She’s been my rock since I was 14, 2011,” he said of Marie. “I genuinely believe that without her, I would not be in the place that I am right now, because I don’t know if I’d be alive.” When a Judgment Day storyline is about to get physical or affectionate onscreen, he gives her a heads up first. “I’ll call her, be like, ‘Hey, honey, don’t tune in. This is what’s going to go down.’ She’s like, ‘Okay, thanks for the heads up. I don’t mind. I’ll check it out.’ Then afterwards she’ll always text me like, ‘Hey, good job. You guys killed it.'”
The Tarantula Text
The clearest proof of how well the system works: the night Mysterio kissed Morgan on WWE television, Marie didn’t say a word about it. Instead, she texted him about a tarantula she’d just found in their garage. That’s the whole update. No jealousy, no drama, just a very large spider.
“Did Frodo Actually Take the Ring to Mordor?”
Mysterio said he’s never once had Marie treat his onscreen affection toward Morgan as a real betrayal, because she’s always understood the assignment. “One of the best examples is someone asks, I think it was in her family or my family, ‘Oh, is it real?’ I’m like, ‘Well, did Frodo actually take the ring to Mordor? That s***’s not real either. You’re just watching television. It’s not real. It’s acting. It’s fake. Enjoy the entertainment.'” He added that when he’s home, the Dirty Dom character stays at the door: “I come home and I’m Dominik. I’m a caring, loving husband, or at least I try to be.”
Mysterio and Marie got engaged in January 2023 and married the following year in an outdoor ceremony. Before teaming up with Morgan onscreen in 2024, Mysterio’s Judgment Day storyline had him romantically linked to Rhea Ripley. Both Mysterio and Morgan were in action at SummerSlam last weekend, Morgan defending the Women’s World Championship against IYO SKY, and Mysterio taking on Danhausen in a Human Monies on a Pole match.
