Drew McIntyre hasn’t wrestled a WWE match since WrestleMania 42, but his other career just hit a nice moment. Russell Crowe posted a gym photo with McIntyre from the Spanish set of The Last Druid, calling him a “good lad” and “salt of the earth” while confirming the shoot is wrapping up.

“In the gym with Drew McIntyre,” Crowe wrote. “Good lad. Salt of the earth. Just finishing up the shoot on The Last Druid. We have been shooting in Spain since May. It has been two years now since playing Hermann Goering in Nuremberg. The long sweaty days in the beautiful Spanish sunshine have definitely been a great motivator. As I always say, it’s one layer of tissue paper at a time. Consistency is your friend.”
McIntyre replied in kind: “When the Gladiator met the Scottish Warrior. My General.”
From Highlander to a Second Movie Together
The bromance traces back to Highlander, Chad Stahelski’s upcoming reboot where McIntyre plays Angus MacLeod opposite Henry Cavill‘s Connor MacLeod, and Crowe plays the immortal mentor Ramirez, the role Sean Connery originated in 1986. Dave Bautista is also in that cast as the villain, the Kurgan, something we covered when the casting first came together. Working alongside Crowe on that set led directly to McIntyre landing a role in Crowe’s own passion project, The Last Druid, a Roman-era historical action film co-starring Rose Leslie and Crowe’s son, Tennyson.
Two Movies, Two Different Years
The Last Druid is set for release this September, putting McIntyre back on screens within weeks. Highlander is still aiming for sometime next year. Either way, McIntyre’s last time in a WWE ring was that WrestleMania 42 loss to Jacob Fatu, and between two Russell Crowe movies, he doesn’t look to be in any hurry to get back.
