Drew McIntyre Says Russell Crowe Wants to Join Him for a WWE WrestleMania Run

Drew McIntyre and Russell Crowe have spent months training together for their Highlander reboot. Now, according to McIntyre, that partnership might not stay on the movie set.

The two have built real history off-screen. When they wrapped filming, Crowe posted a gym photo with McIntyre and called him a “good lad” and “salt of the earth.” They’ve stayed close since, and McIntyre clearly isn’t floating the WWE idea as a throwaway.

Appearing on The Joe Vulpis Podcast, McIntyre said Crowe has brought up working together in a WWE ring more than once. “Russell was legitimately talking about he wanted to do something a couple of times,” McIntyre said, describing early talk of a villainous duo, possibly rounded out by a third member as a manager or second.

If it happens, McIntyre is picturing the biggest stage there is. He floated a WrestleMania appearance specifically, the kind of spot that would put an Oscar winner in a WWE ring in front of the company’s biggest audience of the year.

The Hold-Up Isn’t Interest

McIntyre was clear that Crowe is willing. The sticking point is business. “He’s willing to do it. I mean, I have to talk with the bosses about the numbers because I’m sure he’s not cheap,” McIntyre said.

Nothing here is close to official. WWE hasn’t commented, and Crowe hasn’t addressed it publicly either. But McIntyre has a track record of getting Hollywood names curious about wrestling. Crowe has already publicly praised a WWE match before (he called Edge and Finn Balor‘s Hell In A Cell at WrestleMania 39 one of the best things he’d seen), and the two have grown close enough through Highlander training that McIntyre says this isn’t a one-off joke pitch.

Worth Watching

Whether it actually gets to a WrestleMania entrance or quietly stays a gym conversation, this is the kind of crossover story that tends to escalate fast once a star like Crowe is attached. McIntyre himself still isn’t a lock to be back on WWE TV on a regular schedule, so a lot would need to line up. But he’s the one bringing it up unprompted, which is usually a sign there’s more to it than just a passing comment.
