Former AEW World Champion MJF has chimed in on fans getting heated about WWE and AEW referencing each other on television. It all started after John Cena and Cody Rhodes exchanged some sharp words during a recent episode of WWE Raw in London, dropping subtle (and not-so-subtle) jabs about each other’s histories.

Cena specifically targeted Rhodes’ past in AEW and took a swipe at Tony Khan, saying, “I make empires for billionaires. All you’ve ever done is steal money from their kids.”

Rhodes quickly fired back with a thinly-veiled dig at WWE’s former chairman, Vince McMahon, responding, “They chose me. Can you say the same, John Cena? Or was it one guy in an office who chose you — who is not here anymore and we don’t talk about him?”

The exchange set wrestling Twitter ablaze, prompting MJF to step in with his characteristic bluntness. Taking to social media, the former champ urged fans to relax, tweeting:

“I truly don’t get why fans get up in arms when WWE mentions or references AEW. Or when AEW mentions or references WWE. If you want to be treated like children, watch Elmo. Or better yet. Tell VKM to start a new promotion.”

Clearly, MJF sees the interplay between promotions as just another part of pro wrestling’s appeal, suggesting that fans should embrace these references rather than letting them get under their skin. Wrestling has always thrived on rivalries and blurred lines, and according to MJF, it’s time for everyone to simply enjoy the ride.
