John Cena has faced down giants in the wrestling ring and villains on the big screen, but one of his most life-changing decisions was a personal one involving his signature look. In a recent interview with People Magazine, the wrestling legend and Hollywood star got candid about his decision to undergo a hair transplant procedure and how it has profoundly impacted him.

The Fan Influence and Breaking the Stigma

John Cena revealed that commentary from WWE fans, who would hold up signs like “The bald John Cena,” played a significant role in his decision. “As I was trying to hide my hair loss, the audience was bringing it to light,” he shared. This pushed him to explore his options, leading to the transplant last November.

He spoke about the stigma surrounding male cosmetic procedures, admitting he wishes he had done it a decade ago. “I hate the fact that if there wasn’t so much shame around it, I’d have gotten it done 10 years ago,” Cena confessed. “I thought I was alone, but seven or eight out of 10 [men] suffer from thinning or baldness.”

A “Life-Changing” Decision and Career Boost

The results, according to Cena, have been nothing short of transformative. “It completely changed the course of my life,” he stated, explaining that it has opened up a new world of acting opportunities. “A different hairstyle can identify a part that can get me more work, do the thing I love to do,” he said.

Maintaining his new hair is a daily commitment, involving “red-light therapy, minoxidil, vitamins, shampoo, conditioner.” But for Cena, it’s a small price to pay for the confidence and new roles it has brought him.

Fans can see his new look when he returns as the star of Peacemaker, which comes back to HBO Max for its second season, premiering on Friday, August 22, 2025.
