YouTube: The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast

It must pay well to be the Indie God, because Matt Cardona dropped a stack of cash on a couple of Star Wars action figures.

The purchase was documented on The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast YouTube channel, which was launched by Cardona and fellow former WWE Superstar Brian Myers. Cardona gave viewers a little tour of Dallas Vintage Toys before getting into the big ticket items — original Star Wars figures from the 1970s.

“Okay, this is tempting to me,” Cardona said as he laid eyes on a vintage Kenner 1977 Star Wars R2-D2 figure. The indie champ marveled over the figure’s 90 out of 100 grading, along with its lack of an original price tag.

Cardona ended up pulling the trigger on R2-D2 and another unnamed Star Wars figure (possibly the Chewbacca or Darth Vader he was gazing at). The final retail price? $12,990!

“This is the rookie figure of R2-D2, the original-original R2-D2. It’s just a work of art,” Cardona later said to his Major Wrestling Figure Podcast co-hosts. “To me, this is a centerpiece item. This is the most money I’ve ever spent on one particular action figure. I was like, ‘I dunno if this card is gonna swipe.’ That’s how much it was… and it did. I was shocked that it went through.”

“This is definitely an investment piece, I’ve done a lot of research since,” Cardona continued. “This is one of those things where I left driving away saying, ‘I wish I didn’t buy that. I wish I didn’t spent that much money on that.’ But then I’ve been doing some research that made me feel a little more comfortable. If I were to sell this today, I would make my money back and then some.”

When his co-hosts asked if Cardona‘s wife — WWE Superstar Chelsea Green — knew about the purchase, Cardona replied, “She knows that I got it. She does not know how much I spent on it. She tried to look it up on eBay and was pissed, and it was more because I have a better grade than was listed on eBay.”

As of this posting, a similar figure with an 85 grading is listed on eBay for just under $7,000.

Matt Cardona will make some of that money back when he headlines ACW’s Mischief Night on Oct. 18 in Poughkeepsie, NY. In the main event, Cardona will take on Nic Nemeth, Matt Riddle and defending champ Richard Holliday for the ACW Heavyweight Championship. You can grab tickets now on ThisIsACW.com.
