The first trailer and character posters for the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie have officially dropped, and if you are a wrestling fan, there is a lot to get excited about. While the footage definitely leans into a campy aesthetic, it looks absolutely packed with action—a combination that instantly brings to mind the charm of the 1994 adaptation starring Jean-Claude Van Damme.
The film, directed by Kitao Sakurai, is set to hit theaters on October 16, 2026. But the real headline for us is the heavy presence of pro wrestling royalty in the cast.
The American Nightmare as Guile
Leading the charge is none other than Cody Rhodes. The WWE superstar has traded his ring gear for military fatigues to play Guile, one of the franchise’s most iconic characters. Rhodes looks the part in the character poster, sporting the signature flat-top haircut and American flag tattoo, looking ready to spam Sonic Booms at anyone who gets in his way.

The Tribal Chief becomes the Raging Demon
If having the biggest babyface in the business wasn’t enough, the movie also features the biggest heel of the last decade. Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i has been cast as Akuma, the supreme master of the fist. The character is known for his cold, menacing demeanor and immense power—traits that Reigns perfected during his historic title run. Seeing him step into the role of a literal fighting demon feels like a natural evolution.

Hirooki Goto is E. Honda
While seeing Rhodes and Reigns in Hollywood is huge, the most inspired casting choice might be Hirooki Goto as E. Honda. The NJPW veteran is physically perfect for the role of the sumo wrestler, and his poster captures the intensity of the character beautifully. It is a near-perfect casting choice that adds a layer of authenticity to the film’s roster of fighters.

A Stacked Roster
Beyond the wrestlers, the cast is surprisingly stacked. We have Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Andrew Koji as Ryu, and Jason Momoa looking unrecognizable as the feral beast Blanka. The movie seems to be embracing the wilder, more colorful elements of the video games, which is exactly what a Street Fighter movie should do.
I am genuinely intrigued by this. It looks like a fun, chaotic ride that pays homage to the source material while letting these larger-than-life personalities shine. I will definitely be seated when this releases in 2026. Watch the trailer below:
