William Patrick Corgan has two day jobs, and this week they’re colliding again. Most people know him as Billy Corgan, the frontman of The Smashing Pumpkins. Wrestling fans know him as the owner and CEO of the NWA. Now he’s combining both worlds to find his promotion’s next signing, and he’s doing it through reality TV.
The NWA announced Into the Fire, a new competition series set to air on Comet TV alongside the promotion’s flagship show, NWA Powerrr. Eight contestants, any age, any gender, no pro wrestling experience required, will compete for a shot at a professional contract handed out personally by Corgan.
The press release put it plainly: “INTO THE FIRE allows eight individuals the chance to live their dream, but only one will ultimately earn a professional contract from NWA President and CEO William Patrick Corgan.”
The Man Behind the Contract
Corgan bought the NWA, including its name, trademarks, and championships, back in 2017, and he’s run it alongside his music career ever since. The two sides of his life have crossed over before. In 2023, he brought the NWA on the road with The Smashing Pumpkins, putting live wrestling in front of concert crowds who’d never seen a match. He’s described the idea as an “alternative version of wrestling” built for an audience that wouldn’t normally seek it out.
Into the Fire follows that same instinct, just aimed the other direction: instead of bringing wrestling to new fans, it’s opening the door for new talent, wrestling background or not, to walk straight into the business.
How to Try Out
In-person tryouts are set for August 21 and 22 in Tampa Bay, Florida. Pre-registration is required and there are no walk-ins, so anyone hoping to get in the room needs to sign up ahead of time through the NWA. No air date has been set yet beyond “later in 2026,” but with tryouts happening this week, a fall premiere alongside NWA Powerrr seems like the likeliest landing spot.
It’s a low-stakes, high-upside pitch for anyone who’s ever wondered if they had it in them: eight spots, one contract, and a rock star signing the check.
