The cameras are heading back behind the curtain. Netflix has officially announced that WWE: Unreal will premiere its third season on July 21, and this run is built around the end of an era: John Cena‘s goodbye.
Netflix Sports broke the news on June 22 with a short tease of what is coming.
“OFFICIAL: WWE: Unreal Season 3 will release on Netflix on July 21. John Cena says goodbye, a fan favorite returns, and the next generation of WWE Superstars rise to the occasion. Buckle up.”
What Season 3 Will Cover
Unreal has become a cornerstone of WWE‘s relationship with Netflix, pulling fans inside the writers’ room as creative, talent, and production map out storylines and premium live events. Season 3’s spine is clearly Cena‘s farewell, the long victory lap that defined WWE‘s year. Netflix also teases that “a fan favorite returns,” and AJ Lee has already confirmed she will appear this season, alongside a look at the next wave of stars stepping up.
Where We Left Off
Season 2 closed at SummerSlam, where Cody Rhodes defeated Cena for the Undisputed WWE Championship. From there, Cena flipped back to fan favorite and rode out his retirement tour, a journey that ended with his final match against Gunther in December. Expect Season 3 to document that send-off from the inside.
Both prior seasons of WWE: Unreal are streaming on Netflix now, so there is time to catch up before the July 21 premiere.
