Atlantis Jr. Met Tom Cruise in Mexico and Gave Him a Custom CMLL Mask

Lucha libre and Hollywood crossed over in the best way possible. Atlantis Jr., one of CMLL’s top stars and son of the masked legend Atlantis, met Tom Cruise and Oscar-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu in Mexico last week, and ended up explaining to one of the biggest movie stars alive exactly who his dad is.

How It Came Together

The meeting happened through Warner Bros. Pictures Mexico, with Atlantis Jr. sitting down to interview Cruise and Iñárritu as the two promote their upcoming film together. Warner Bros. Pictures Mexico posted photos of the trio to Instagram, and in them Atlantis Jr. invites the pair to come experience a night at Arena México, the cathedral of lucha libre.

He didn’t show up empty-handed, either. According to El Heraldo de México, Atlantis Jr. brought custom CMLL masks for both men, who happily put them on. The designs even nodded to the movie itself, matching its color scheme and incorporating a shovel that the lead character uses.

“El Ídolo de los Niños”

The detail wrestling fans latched onto came from the person who shared the clip: Atlantis Jr. explaining to Tom Cruise that his father, the legendary Atlantis, is known as “El Ídolo de los Niños”, the idol of the children. It’s not hype. Atlantis is one of the most beloved and important figures in CMLL history, a multi-decade icon whose mask is among the most recognizable in the sport.

A Rare Appearance for Atlantis Jr.

The crossover doubled as an uncommon public sighting of Atlantis Jr. himself. Per El Heraldo de México, he has been away from CMLL since a bad fall outside the ring at Arena México on May 24, 2026, that badly affected his knee, with no firm timetable yet for his return. Trading the ring for a camera to welcome Hollywood to Mexican wrestling is about as good a way to resurface as any.

A masked lucha star teaching Tom Cruise about his father’s legacy and inviting one of the most famous actors on earth to Arena México is exactly the kind of only-in-lucha moment that keeps the crossover appeal of Mexican wrestling alive. Now someone just needs to get Cruise in the building.
