Add one more name to the list of people who never thought they’d see this: Adam Copeland is going back to an independent wrestling ring, and he’s doing it inside the building where he grew up watching hockey. Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling confirmed Wednesday night that Copeland, still known to plenty of fans as Edge, is coming to Northern Rising on Saturday, October 3, at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto, better known by its old name, Maple Leaf Gardens.

The reveal came at the end of Mayhem, Maple Leaf Pro‘s weekly TV show (it airs on TSN2 in Canada and streams for U.S. fans through MyAEW). The episode closed with a video package built around shots of the Gardens, teasing the promotion’s return there this fall, before a familiar voice came in over the top. “Some people chase moments, I create them,” Copeland said. “You asked if I was worthy? That’s the wrong question. The question is, is this place ready for one more unforgettable night?”
No match has been confirmed yet, so it’s not clear whether Copeland will be wrestling, appearing in an angle, or just showing up to be part of the night. Whatever it ends up being, it’s a big deal on its own: this will be Copeland‘s first independent wrestling show appearance in what’s being described as “many, many years,” with his last one dating back to 2001. He’d said publicly, all the way back in 2023, that competing at Maple Leaf Gardens was something he wanted to do.
What Maple Leaf Pro Is
Maple Leaf Pro, run by former TNA executive Scott D’Amore, is based out of Windsor, Ontario, and has built a close relationship with AEW, both through its Mayhem distribution deal and a steady rotation of AEW, ROH, and independent names passing through. The first Northern Rising, held in May 2025, was the promotion’s first show outside Windsor and crowned its first men’s and women’s champions on a card that included Zack Sabre Jr. against Jonathan Gresham, Gisele Shaw against Kylie Rae, a three-way between Mike Bailey, Gabe Kidd, and Michael Oku that scored four and a half stars from the Wrestling Observer, Serena Deeb against Miyu Yamashita, and the Bullet Club War Dogs (David Finlay and Drilla Moloney) against the Good Brothers (Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson).
The company announced the venue and date for the second Northern Rising back on July 13, calling it their biggest event of the year and promising it would air live worldwide on pay-per-view. Tickets go on sale Friday, July 31.
Why This Fits
Copeland is a Toronto-area guy, from Orangeville, Ontario, and Maple Leaf Gardens carries the kind of local weight that doesn’t need much explaining to anyone from there. It’s also just a busy stretch for him either way. Before October rolls around, he and Christian Cage defend the AEW World Tag Team Championships against The Young Bucks at All In from Wembley Stadium on August 30. After that, he heads home.

No match, no opponent, and no further details yet, just the confirmation that Copeland will be part of the show. Maple Leaf Pro has already said this is only the start of what they’re announcing for Northern Rising, so expect more names to follow before October 3.
