The Attitude Era was full of legendary backstage stories, but perhaps none are as smoky and star-studded as the day Snoop Dogg visited WWE Raw at the Allstate Arena in Chicago. The story has made the rounds for years, and it just got a fresh retelling from D-Lo Brown.
In a new interview with SoCal Val, the former European Champion shared his perspective on the incident, which included a classic “Cheech & Chong” moment right in front of Vince McMahon.

D-Lo’s Version of the Iconic Showdown
D-Lo set the scene of the cramped backstage area, explaining that Snoop Dogg and The Godfather had “disappeared” into a small celebrity room. The results were… immediate.
“That was Raw in Chicago at the Allstate Arena… it’s very small. The downstairs is very small. So there’s a small hallway and there’s like three or four rooms there… On the left side is like the boys’ locker room and then the girls’ locker room. And on the right side was like production and then Vince‘s office. Well, since it was a… live event, there was no production. So that was going to be the room where the celebrities would be. And that’s where Jesse Ventura was at. And then before Jesse got there, Snoop Dogg was there.
And so Snoop comes rolling in… he’s dapping and he’s hanging with the boys and all of a sudden him and Godfather go disappear into this room. And like clockwork, five minutes later, the entire bottom bowl of the arena smells of the funk of 40,000 years. It is weed central in this thing, right?
And as Vince comes rolling up walking in… here’s Godfather, opens the door and it’s like something out of Cheech & Chong, a puff of smoke comes out. And as Godfather tells the story, he walked out looking at Vince and he goes, ‘What’d you expect me to do? You put me in the room with him.’ And Vince goes, ‘All right, pal,’ and keeps walking on. And Godfather just comes out giggling. And here comes Snoop right behind him, eyes drooping, bloodshot, higher than Mount Everest.”

Godfather & JBL Corroborate the Story
While D-Lo‘s account is hilarious, it’s not the only version. This past summer, during a Nation of Domination reunion on Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw, The Godfather and JBL added even more context.

The Godfather confirmed the setup, revealing that WWE personnel actually came to him to “help” Snoop.
“That’s the first time I met him,” The Godfather began. “And they came to me and said, ‘Hey, Snoop, don’t feel good. He doesn’t want to do this. He doesn’t have any weed. Do you have any?’ I’m like, ‘Okay.’”
JBL confirmed D-Lo‘s memory of the overwhelming smell, recounting how Kane alerted him to the situation. “He goes, ‘dude, come here’… And I walk over here, I go, ‘Oh, my God,’ the whole… place reeked.”
Governor Jesse Ventura’s Classic Reaction
Perhaps the wildest detail from that night involved the other celebrity in the building, the then-sitting Governor of Minnesota, Jesse Ventura, who had a Secret Service detail with him.
JBL described how a visible “fog” from the “blunts… big old things” had filled the hallway just as Ventura exited an adjacent room. His reaction was priceless.
“He walks out to get his catering… and he walks out and gets his catering,” JBL said. “[He] goes, ‘Well, the boys are still the boys,’ and just walks right back.”
The best part? The Godfather confirmed he never faced any repercussions for the incident. “The funny thing is, I never heard one word about it from anybody,” he said. “Nobody said anything to me about it.”
